Inverness Highland Games Reveals Strong Community Heart

The Highland Council has announced that next month’s Inverness Highland Games at Bught Park will have the largest community involvement ever seen since the event was first staged in 1822.

With the deadline for registration approaching, a record 110 Community organisations have already signed up to exhibit, fundraise or perform at the two day show which will climax with a big top concert for 7000 Proclaimers fans.

Amongst the community groups making their debut at the Games this year will be The F.A.L.C.O.N. Project Drummers, Canntaireachd Gaelic Harmony Singing Group, the Scottish Highland & Islands and Moray Chinese Association’s Lion Dancers, the Tullich Dance Group who will be presenting the World Premiere of The Homecoming Scottish Country Dance, the Highland Wildcat Cheerleader Group and the finalists in the 2008 Shinty World Cup Final, Portree and Fort William.

Games Committee Chairman Angus Dick said: “We are absolutely delighted that so many community groups will be joining us at this year’s Games. Applications have jumped by over 30% since last year and what is especially pleasing to see is how many youngsters are taking their place at the very heart of what we do.”

Applications from Community Groups wishing to exhibit at this year’s Games must be received before 5pm on Friday 20th June. Full details can be found at www.invernesshighlandgames.com.
