Dingwall Invitation

Residents in the Bridaig Avenue; Bridaig Cottages; Bridaig Square; Dewar Square; Fingal Road; Gladstone Avenue; Meiklefield Road; Meiklefield Square; Millcraig Road; Peffery Road; Seaforth Gardens; or Wyvis Terrace areas of Dingwall are being invited to come along to a public meeting next week (Wednesday 25 June) to officially form their own residents group.

The meeting is being held in the County Buildings on Wednesday 25 June at 7.30pm.

The residents association is for everyone living in this area irrespective of whether
they own or rent their home.  A meeting was held last month to measure the need
for a group and if people were prepared to support it.  The issues that people
said at that meeting they were concerned about were: general nuisance; youth
nuisance; housing and street maintenance; bad roads and maintenance; litter and
inconsiderate parking.

Carol Elliot, Tenant Participation Officer with The Highland Council, said an enthusiastic residents group could make a real difference to the local community.

"It is essential that residents make the decisions that affect them.  Having a residents group means the community can do things for itself and has a stronger say in what it thinks can improve its neighbourhood and homes," she said.

"You may think you are alone in wanting to improve things, but others may feel the same way too.  By getting together and addressing common concerns, things get done!"

Carol will be chairing the meeting which will propose the adoption of a constitution for the group, drafted by a steering group made up of local residents, and elect a committee.

The proposed constitution can be seen at Dingwall Service Point, The SPAR Shop High Street and the Westend Post Office.

Anybody interested in setting up a residents group in their area should contact Carol Elliot, The Highland Council, Tenant Participation Officer, on 01349 877408.
