Enthusiastic Learners in Wick School

Happy, confident, well-behaved and with an enthusiasm for learning was HMIe how inspectors described pupils in North Primary School, Wick in their report published today (17th June 2008).

Arrangements to develop pupils’ knowledge about a healthy lifestyle, very good relationships across the school, the high standard of pastoral care and the progress made by pupils experiencing difficulties in their learning were other strengths outlined in the report.

Her Majesty’s Inspectors of education visited the school in March 2008 as part of a national sample of primary and nursery education. North Primary School, they said: “provided a welcoming and caring environment for learning where all staff worked together to ensure that pupils were safe, healthy and included”.  They reported that parents, pupils and staff had expressed very positive views about the school. Teachers, in partnership with other agencies, had placed a strong emphasis on promoting pupils’ personal and social development, particularly in developing pupils’ citizenship skills. Inspectors said:  “that the head teacher’s vision for the very inclusive ethos in the school had been effectively realised”.
 
HMIe identified mathematics and the school’s self-evaluation as areas for future development.
