Highland libraries have sustainability in the bag

Libraries throughout the Highlands are now offering readers the chance to borrow books in a more environmentally friendly fashion by purchasing specially designed jute library book bags.

Bags are now on sale for £2.00 throughout all Highland Council’s branch and mobile libraries.  They carry the message ‘Scottish Libraries: free book, less waste more trees’.

Prize winners of the Big Library Quiz were the first library users to try out the new book bags after they were presented with free samples filled with a selection of books signed by the authors.

Bill Fernie, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Service said: “Libraries have been ‘recycling’ reading for over 150 years and by offering jute carrier bags to our borrowers we can help to save our environment and resources.”
