Highland primary school celebrates World Book Week

Marybank Primary School in Ross-shire is holding a week long series of events to celebrate World Book Week 3rd – 7th March and World Book Day on Thursday 6th March.

The school is having an entire week dedicated to all things literary.

On Monday, pupils attended school dressed as their favourite characters from their favourite books and they drew and wrote about the characters. There was also be a sponsored read in the morning and at lunchtime pupils will participate in a comic club. Players from Ross County Football Club, parents and staff will read to the children in the afternoon.

On Tuesday, author Jackie Wood will be showing the children how to write a book and will help them to devise short stories based on objects. A book swap will take place at lunchtime and in the afternoon the children will illustrate their stories and present them to others in their class.

Designing a book token and book mark will be the first task on Wednesday morning, followed by more reading sessions with parents and staff. Over lunchtime pupils can attend the non-fiction club and get information on books, menus, timetables and other interesting items. A visit to Dingwall Library is on the cards in the afternoon where pupils will look at poetry and non-fiction held in the library.

Thursday will see pupils take part in an environmental print trail and a trip to Borders bookstore to spend their World Book Week £1 book token and to buy books for classes with the sponsor money raised by the school.

Paired reading practise will take place on Friday morning followed by the children acting out their favourite book characters and a book swap held in the afternoon.
