Council Progresses Inverness Flood Prevention Schemes
The Highland Council has agreed to progress two flood prevention schemes in Inverness, which are aimed at reducing the risk of flooding to properties adjacent to the River Ness. It is proposed to construct flood mitigation measures which will extend from the lower end of the Ness Islands down to the mouth of the river. These measures will be built on both sides of the river.
One will cover the length of the River Ness from the downstream end of the Ness Islands to the Ness Bridge and this will be entitled The Highland Council (River Ness Upper Section) Flood Prevention Scheme. The second will cover the length of the River Ness from the Ness Bridge down to the mouth of the river and this will be entitled The Highland Council (River Ness Tidal Section) Flood Prevention Scheme.
The project can only proceed once the Flood Prevention Schemes have been confirmed and planning consent is in place.
The overall cost of the River Ness Flood Prevention Scheme (upper and tidal sections) is estimated at £6 million.
Public exhibitions showing details of the proposals were held at the Merkinch Community Centre on 13 December 2007 and at the Ness Bank Church Hall on 7 February 2008.
