HMIE Reports – Altnaharra and Lairg Primary Schools
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education inspected Lairg Primary School in November 2007 and Altnaharra Primary School in December 2007 as part of a national sample of primary education. Reports, published today (11th March 2008) identify key strengths, use quality indicators to relate evaluations and identify the main points for action in both schools.
As a consequence of the findings, the schools and The Highland Council’s education authority have been asked to prepare an action plan indicating how they will address the main findings of the reports.
The HMIE team will return to the schools in twelve months time to review progress against the action plan and will undertake a follow-through inspection within two years of the publication of this report.
Referring to Lairg Primary School, Cluster Head Teacher, Miss Isobel Gillies said: “We recognise the need for greater organisation in areas of our curriculum and this inspection has given us the launch pad to move forward. I am confident that the school is well placed to improve and my staff have started to put in place the improvements required by the report.”
Regarding Altnaharra Primary School Miss Gillies said: “We are pleased with the HMIE report. We will continue to strive to provide the children in our care with a challenging curriculum.”
