Council Assist in Finding Future for Clachnacuddin FC
Two members of The Highland Council’s Inverness City Committee and City Manager David Haas are to sit on a working group, which is being established to find a way forward for cash-strapped Clachnacuddin FC.
The Highland League club have agreed to terminate their lease of Grant Street Park with the Council’s Common Good Fund because they are unable to pay off rent arrears and meet current rental payments. The lease had 14 years to run.
The Council delegation will represent the interests of the Common Good Fund on the club’s working group and assist the club in finding a long term solution.
Inverness City Committee members agreed that all efforts should be made to preserve the footballing heritage of Clachnacuddin FC. It was clear that the football club was unable to meet its financial commitments properly agreed with the Common Good Fund trustees.
They agreed the termination of the lease made good sense as not only would it prevent the club from going into further debt, but it also provided an opportunity to re-visit options which would both act to secure the Common Good Fund investment and provide a sustainable future for the club. This did not prejudice the rights of the Common Good Fund to reclaim payment of the arrears.
The City Manager will provide update reports to the City Committee as appropriate.
