Council Puts The Brakes On Drivers

Motorists in Sutherland are being warned that part time 20mph speed restrictions will be introduced at another school in the area, for children’s safety.

The new speed limits come into force at Bonar Bridge Primary School from Monday 5th December. This addition will bring the total number of schools benefiting from part time speed limits in Sutherland to 8 and in Highland to 38.

These part time speed limits at Bonar Bridge Primary come following an earlier warning to drivers in the Highlands that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough.

In August this year, Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) issued a joint warning to motorists that if they are caught speeding near Highland schools where a part time 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

Drivers travelling near Bonar Bridge Primary should be aware that the 20mph part time speed limit applies on school days, Mondays to Fridays from 08:40 to 09:05; 11:35 to 12:35; 14:30 to 14:45; and 15:00 to 15:15.

The other schools in Sutherland with part time 20mph speed restrictions include Dornoch Academy and Dornoch, Edderton, Gledfield, Kinbrace, Lairg and Melvich Primaries.
