Council Rangers build boxes for bats and birds

Highland Council’s Inverness Rangers are looking for volunteers to help them build boxes for bats and birds to roost in throughout the winter

Katy Martin, Senior Ranger for Inverness and Nairn said: "At this time of year we are preparing for the winter months ahead. This year especially, the long range predictions are forecasting a very cold winter and we hope to help out our feathered and furry friends by providing bat and bird boxes for them to shelter in."

A bird and bat box building event will take place on Saturday 12th November at Farr. This free, family event starts at 2 pm and will last for approximately 2 hours.

The event has been organised as part of The Highland Council’s Planning and Development Service Countryside Ranger "Guided Walks Programme in Inverness and Nairn" The current programme of events from October 2005 till April 2006 can be found on the Council’s website at: wwwold.www.highland.gov.uk/plintra/environ/rangers/rangers.htm.

To book a place on the Farr Bird and Bat Box Event, telephone 01463 724312. Participants are asked to dress warmly and are advised that any walking will be on established paths on various surfaces and slopes. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers are grant aided by Scottish Natural Heritage. The role of Countryside Rangers is to promote public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and to conserve wildlife and habitats. There are 27 Rangers throughout the Highlands.
