A New Chapter For Dingwall Library
Residents of Dingwall and the surrounding area are set to benefit from an extended library service when the new community library at Dingwall Academy opens its doors on Monday 9 June.
Open 6 days a week for a total of 56 hours, including two evenings with late opening until 8pm, the bright and spacious library will offer a wider choice of information and fiction books for all ages. As well as books to borrow, there will be a suite of computers offering free internet access, e-mail and the chance to search and order books via an on-line catalogue. A wide selection of audio books and DVDs will also be available for loan. Throughout the building, which is part of the new community school, there will be full disabled access and plenty of parking spaces and cycle stands in the car park.
Chairman of the Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee, Councillor Bill Fernie said: “The people of Dingwall deserve a library that meets the needs and aspirations of all ages. The spacious new library will offer more choice and be more flexible when it comes to hosting library events such as readings by visiting authors, book promotions and sessions for pre-school children. I am sure the new library with its extended opening hours will be a great asset to the town and that it will attract many more people to come along to take advantage of all the facilities it offers.”
From Monday 9 June the opening hours at the new Dingwall Community Library will be: Monday 09:00 - 18:00; Tuesday 09:00 - 20:00; Wednesday 09:00 - 18:00; Thursday 09:00 - 20:00; Friday 09:00 - 18:00; Saturday 10:00 - 17:00.
The current library at Tulloch street will be closed from Monday 2 June to allow staff to prepare for the opening of the new facility. Dingwall Library has been in this building since the 1960s, originally downstairs but latterly on the upper floor. The original library for the town was a Carnegie Library located in what is now the annex of the Lower Town Hall.
Library card holders will still be able to use their cards at the new library and holders of High-life cards are reminded that they can use their card to borrow books, CDs and DVDs from any Highland library.
Anyone wishing further advance information about the new library should contact Dingwall Library staff on 01349 863163. This telephone number will cease when the library closes.
