Dingwall Recycling Centre Opens

The new Recycling Centre in Dingwall was officially opened on Monday (21 November) by Councillor Bill Fulton, The Highland Council’s Depute Chairman of TEC Services with responsibility for waste management and local Councillors, Margaret Paterson and Michael Macmillan.

Householders will now be able to take their cans, car batteries, cardboard, electrical appliances, engine oil, garden waste, glass bottles & jars, paper, rubble and soil, scrap metal, textiles, tyres, white goods and wood to the Recycling Centre which is situated in Dingwall Business Park. A special container is also available for people to donate unwanted furniture and household goods local charities for reuse.

Local firm, M.M Miller, were contracted by The Highland Council to build the new facility which was successfully completed on time and within the allocated budget. The Centre will be opened seven days a week and two members of staff have been employed to help customers and manage the site.

During the official opening Councillor Bill Fulton said: “"I am delighted that householders in and around Dingwall now have a purpose-built facility to take their recycling waste to. People can bring along a wide range of items and the more we can recycle, the less ends up going to our landfill sites. I hope as many people as possible take advantage of this new excellent facility."

Kevin Campbell, one of the new members of staff said: "Since the Centre opened to the public last Wednesday, there has been a steady flow of people bringing scrap metal, wood, cardboard and other items to recycle."

The opening hours are Monday & Tuesday 10.15am-5.00pm; Wednesday 10.15am-6.30pm; Thursday & Friday 10.15am-5.00pm and Saturday & Sunday 9.30am-5.30pm. The Centre will be closed daily for lunch from 2-2.30pm.

A leaflet is now available from Dingwall Service Point and the library giving full details of all the materials which can be recycled and giving information on where the items are sent for reprocessing.
