Dornoch Urges - "Book Now For Hogmanay"

Following the success of recent Hogmanay celebrations in Sutherland, the organisers of Dornoch Hogmanay are urging party goers to book their accommodation now to avoid any potential disappointment.

Dornoch’s Hogmanay Street Party will take place (Saturday 31st December, 2005) between 10.30pm and 1.00am in the Sutherland town’s square.

The historic setting including cathedral, castle and court-house will all be all be lit up to create a spectacular backdrop for the celebrations.

Jimmy Macdonald’s Red Reel Ceilidh Band will play traditional and popular music for revellers to dance the New Year in. There will also be a pipe band, food and drink, fireworks and a lone piper on the castle battlement to create a great atmosphere in which to see in 2006.

The event is a family event and children are welcome to come along with their parents. Based on previous feedback, the organisers have deliberately removed the "big bangs" from the fireworks display so as not to frighten smaller children.

A live web-cam will be broadcasting the festivities on www.visitdornoch.com.

Provost of Dornoch, Councillor Duncan Allan said: "This will be the happiest family Hogmanay celebration that you could wish for. We have it all – a magnificent backdrop, fireworks, live music and room for dancing in the streets. After 1.00am the dancing will continue for the fit and young at heart with a disco in the local Social Club until the wee small hours.

"Dornoch is the place to be at Hogmanay and we look forward to welcoming everyone to a wonderful night. Our organising committee has five years experience. Book your accommodation now to avoid disappointment. Our pubs are open the next day at 11am to supply remedial therapy."
