Council puts the brakes on traffic speed around 3 more schools

Motorists are being advised that The Highland Council has introduced reduced speed limits around three more Highland schools.

An advisory 20’s Plenty speed limit is now in place at Inver Primary School and part-time 20 mph speed limits have been installed at Tain Royal Academy and North Kessock Primary.

The part time signs will operate when pupils are arriving and departing from school during term time at Tain Royal Academy from 8:30am to 8:50am; 12:55pm to 1:10pm; 1:40pm to 1:55pm and 3:40pm to 3:55pm. At North Kessock Primary the part time signs will be operating from 8:55am to 9:15am; 3pm to 3:15pm; and 3:30pm to 3:45pm.

The introduction of these speed limits brings 50 of the 63 schools in Caithness, Sutherland and East Ross, with 20 limits installed; and 66 of the 82 schools with limits installed in Ross Skye & Lochaber.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service.
