Glenurquhart Primary Pupils donate funds raised from ceilidh CD

Pupils of Glenurquhart Primary school will tomorrow (Tuesday 9th September at 2.30pm) celebrate the results of an enterprise project by donating £350 to the Macmillan Nurses cancer charity and the Highland Heart Nurse appeal.

Pupils now in primaries 5/6 and P7 performed and recorded a selection of traditional Scottish songs and also a Gaelic song onto CD which they sold at the Glen Urquhart Community Library and Learning Centre for £5. They launched the sale of their CD earlier this year in February and since then raised £700.

Head Teacher Kirsteen MacConnell said:  "The CD was produced as part of an enterprise project at the school.  The children were singing songs and enjoying it so much that they came up with the idea of recording them.  They are very pleased to see the end results including the sales of their CD and the money that they have raised for charity."

Librarian Christine Matheson said: “As well as being bought by people all over the Highlands and Islands, sales of the CD have gone as far as Canada, New Zealand and Australia.”

The children will sing one of the songs from their CD to invited guests, local Highland Councillors and representatives for Macmillan Nurses cancer charity and the Highland Heart Nurse appeal.
