New Youth Club At Torridon
Fourteen young people from the Torridon, Shieldaig and Kinlochewe area met on Saturday 13 September at Torridon Hall for the first night of a new youth club. Over the evening they played dodge ball, snooker, table tennis, table football, held a singing and dancing competition and enjoyed refreshments of toasties, smoothies and popcorn.
Kassie Forder a member of the youth group applied to Ross and Cromarty YouthBank for equipment and was successful in gaining £300 which the new club have used to purchase a wii and a karaoke machine. Poolewe Village Hall also gifted the group a table tennis table, a portable snooker table and a football table.
Fiona Downie, The Highland Council’s Youth Development Officer said: “Its great to see the youth club up and running. After an open meeting in May to discuss the idea we have had tremendous support from volunteers and other groups. It’s great to see such community spirit and enthusiasm for something to happen for young people in the area.”
Martin Macleod, one of the new clubs members said: “It is good to have something to do on a Saturday as there is nothing to do in the villages.”
The youth club will meet every Saturday during term time between 7 and 10pm.
Anyone wishing to volunteer to help out at the club is encouraged to contact Elaine Holmes, Youth worker for Torridon on 01445 790727 or Trisha Hinchliff, Chairperson for Torridon Youth Club on 791481.
