Poet and Playwright Visits Ardnamurchan

Famed Scots poet and playwright Liz Lochhead is to visit The Sunart Centre in Strontian on Saturday 26th November.

Liz Lochhead will be conducting workshops for aspiring writers as part of the second Àrainn Shuaineirt Book Festival to be held in The Sunart Centre, Strontian, on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th November.

Other visiting authors include Anne MacLeod, writer of poetry and fiction whose first novel The Dark Ship (1999) is a Scottish best seller, Keith Brockie, wildlife artist and illustrator, Mark Scott, international broadcaster and lawyer and internationally respected illustrator Ruth Bayley.

The Book Festival will see a programme for local schools on the Friday daytime, with workshops from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Working Party Theatre Company, and careers in the performing arts seminar for older pupils. In the evening at 7pm there will be a performance by The Working Party of Tales of the Baron, based on poems by Scotland’s poet laureate Edwin Morgan, relating the tales of Baron Munchausen. A childcare Kid’s Club will be available on the Friday evening for children under 11.

The Saturday programme includes talks by Anne MacLeod and Keith Brockie, Ottakar’s Books, Maisy the Mouse for younger visitors, storytelling for under 8s, puppet making workshops and a performance by the Waggish Radish Puppet Theatre, writers’ workshops with Liz Lochhead, and a Kiddies’ Corner. Food and refreshments will be available all day.

Saturday evening will host a ceilidh from 7:30pm – 9:30pm with performances by Liz Lochhead and Anne MacLeod, storytelling by Maisie Dennison, Gaelic song from Margaret Ford and much more. Childcare will again be available during the evening ceilidh.
