32 Whyte and Mackay redundancies hit East Ross economy
The Highland Council is to seek an early meeting with distilling company Whyte and Mackay, who have announced it is entering a 30-day consultation on its intention to cut its Invergordon workforce from 133 to 103 and its workforce at Dalmore Distillery, Alness, from 17 to 15.
Councillor Michael Foxley, Leader of The Highland Council’s Administration, said: “The loss of these good quality jobs is a huge disappointment for Invergordon and the wider Highland economy. Whyte and Mackay is a long established business, which has provided good quality employment in the area.
“The company has offered to meet with the Council and this offer is being taken up with a meeting being arranged as soon as possible. This will give us the chance to establish the rationale for these job losses and to express our disappointment. We will also be meeting with Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Skills Development Scotland and Jobcentre Plus to identify any actions and help we can offer at this time for those who find themselves redundant.”
