Olympians receive standing ovation from Highland Council

A group of athletes who took part in the 2009 Special Olympics at Leicester received a standing ovation from members of The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee today as they attended the meeting to report their triumphs at the games.
 
Charlie Forbes, Highland Disability Sports Development Officer presented a video of the Highland athletes’ participation at the Games. He reported that the 108-strong team had brought back a haul of 20 gold, 37 silver and 23 bronze medals to the Highlands.
 
Mr Forbes thanked Chairman of Highland Disability Sport, Mrs Janet Home for her support at the games and for her tireless work with Highland Disability Sport.  He also gave thanks to The Highland Council and main sponsors Tulloch Homes for their assistance.

Bill Fernie, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Education Culture and Sport Committee congratulated the athletes on their outstanding achievements and wished them well in the their attempts over the next few months as they trial for the Great Britain team selections for the 2012 Athens World Games.
