Young traditional musicians launch debut CD

‘snas & Còisir G, two of the seven Regional Music Groups which run as an extension to the tuition provided by The Highland Council’s Instrumental Tuition Service have launched their debut CD. Both Groups have already made a positive impact on Highland’s music scene and their CD entitled
Craicers is a testament to their talents and hard work.

The CD features innovative and imaginative arrangements of traditional and contemporary tunes with a 21st century twist.  Eilidh Mackenzie’s arrangements for Gaelic singing group Còisir G are both exciting and haunting, whilst the collaborative work of ‘snas members and staff make for some exhilarating and stirring performances.

Musicians from both groups are drawn from right across the Highlands and join after successfully taking part in audition days.  Whilst many of the members receive tuition from Highland Council Instrumental Instructors, some have developed their skills in other ways.

The Highland Council’s Music Development Officer Norman Bolton said:  “Due to the diverse nature of Highland geography, it is difficult to meet for regular rehearsal sessions.  It is, therefore, a credit to the commitment of these young musicians that they are prepared to travel, usually to Inverness, for residential weekend rehearsals throughout the year.  The CD captures the enthusiasm of all the young musicians and showcases their exciting talent.
