Merkinch Primary School Closure
At around 8:45am this morning (02 December 2009) Merkinch Primary School was evacuated due to suspicions of a potential gas leak.
On arrival school children were assembled by staff in the playground. Parents / carers who arrived with pupils were asked to take their children home. Other pupils families were contacted and alternative arrangements were made for the children to return home
Transco has been in attendance and have confirmed that there is no gas leak at the property. The school is now back in service to staff. Staff re-entered the school at 10:05am. The school will remain closed to pupils for the remainder of today but will open as normal at 9am tomorrow 3 December
The school reacted properly, following the correct procedures to ensure that pupils were safe. The school roll is 315 pupils and nursery children.
