Closure of Newmore House Care Home

A private Easter Ross care home for people with mental health difficulties closed it doors for the last time on Monday 14th December.

A team, which included The Highland Council’s Housing and Social Work staff, had been working with service users, their families, staff and management of the home, independent advocates and support providers in the community to ensure as smooth a transition as possible for the 13 residents, some of whom had lived at Newmore House for many years.

This week, Donellen Mackenzie, Assistant Area Community Care Manager for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, paid tribute to the positive partnership working which had led to individual solutions for all 13 residents, 6 of whom have moved into alternative care homes and 7 into supported tenancies in the community. 

Donellen said:  “Newmore House had been an important contributor to service provision in the Highlands for the past 17 years the owners and staff have worked very flexibly and positively to ensure minimum disruption to the residents in the run up to the closure. I understand that the owners were now looking forward to a well earned retirement.”
