Formal opening of refurbished Fort Augustus care home

The Telford Centre in Fort Augustus, a care home for 10 older people, was officially reopened today (Friday 18th December) following a £1.2 million refurbishment. The centre is the eighth Council care home to be refurbished under the Council’s programme of improvements at a total cost of £4.1 million.

Improvements allow the centre to comply with fire regulations and feature improved facilities for disabled people as well as redecoration and renewal of the carpets.

During the refurbishment, residents were cared for at another of the Council’s care homes at Invernevis House in Fort William.  The day centre successfully relocated to the Church of Scotland Hall in Fort Augustus. 
The contractor was McGregor Construction (Highland ) Ltd.            
 Other homes to have benefited from an upgrade are:-  Bayview House, Thurso;  Seaforth House, Golspie; Dail Mhor, Strontian; Melvich Community Care Unit; Strathburn House, Gairloch; the MacKintosh Centre, Mallaig and Pulteney House, Wick. 

Councillor Margaret Davidson, chairman of the Housing and Social Work Committee, said: “This is a great day for the residents and our staff, who deserve all the praise in the world for their patience and co-operation during the upheaval of the major refurbishment. 
“This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing modern surroundings and facilities for our older people.”
