Youth Parliament Meets At Carbisdale Castle

This weekend (25-27 November) sees the youth parliament for the Highlands meet at Carbisdale Castle, Culrain, Sutherland. Highland Youth Voice brings together 100 young people aged 14-18 from all over the Highlands.

The event, run by The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Service on behalf of The Highland WellBeing Alliance, sees decision-makers from a range of public and voluntary sector agencies come together to listen to young people’s views on life in the north and how services for young people can be improved.

Youth Voice members will be involved in discussions on encouraging young people to become more active, and how Local Enterprise companies can meet young people’s needs.

Youth Voice will also have a "political speed-dating session" with members of the Joint Committee on Children and Young People, enabling them to get their views on a variety of issues including health, education, culture and facilities over to key Highland decision makers

Pablo Mascarenhas, Principal Youth Development Officer, responsible for youth participation, said: "Young people are extremely important to the future of the Highlands for all of us. It is imperative that services for young people are delivered in ways that offer them a quality of life that encourages them to remain here. Highland Youth Voice and the development of local youth forums give them to opportunity to talk directly to decision makers and have a real impact on the lives of young people. This event is a massive logistical effort but is worth the investment that goes in to it."
