Council reduces speeding at another Caithness school

From Monday 23rd February 2009, another Caithness School will have new full time 30mph and part time 20mph speed limits in operation for children’s’ safety.

The new part time speed limits at Keiss Primary School will operate at the following times during school term times when children are normally expected to be arriving at or departing from the school: from 8:40am to 9am; 12:30 to 1:15pm; 2:30 to 2:45pm and 3pm to 3:15pm.

There are currently 20mph speed limits at 58 schools in Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross Area.  Work is in progress for the remaining 5 primary schools at Achfarry, Hemsdale, Tongue, St. Duthus (Tain) and Park Primary (Invergordon).

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service.
