Scottish “Maldini” Visits School

A Highland school will be welcoming a Scottish football legend for a visit on Thursday 26th February.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle Assistant Manager, Maurice Malpas has answered the calls of Dornoch Academy to come and visit some of the pupils as part of their Dornoch Derby and Garden Party event which is taking place on Saturday 28th February.

Malpas - a legend at Dundee United – is known as the Scottish Maldini in reference to his legendary loyalty to one club which saw him appearing over 600 times for the Tangerine army. He is currently based in the Highlands working with former England captain Terry Butcher to turn around the fortunes of the Inverness club.

He is visiting the school to meet some of the pupils and view their preparations for the event such as the sumptuous 4 course high tea made by them with products sourced from local producers and retailers.

He has also joined other celebrities in offering a signed school tie for inclusion in the celebrity auction. Other lots include signed football photographs of Sir Alex Ferguson as well as doodles and t-shirts by other luminaries as Ally McCoist, Sir Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart and Robbie Coltraine.

The auction catalogue is available from both Ruth Gagan on 01862 810246 and the school’s website

The Dornoch Derby and Garden Party is being held as a way of raising funds for the purchase of people carrier to allow children of this remote Highland school the chance to take educational trips farther afield.
