Kingussie Pupils Petition Highland Council on Renewable Energy
Three Secondary 4 pupils from Kingussie High School presented a petition signed by fellow pupils and staff to The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee today (Thursday) urging the Council to improve renewable energy and fuel consumption at the school.
Jessica Sutherland, Toby Mitchell and Fallon Sheffield also made a presentation to the committe during which they highlighted that only 26% of fuel used at the school comes from renewable energy.
The Highland Council’s Youth Convener, Catriona Burns congratulated the pupils on their presentation and said of the pupils: “.They are a testament to their staff that in spite of the conditions of their teaching surroundings they manage to turn out such eloquent and forward thinking people.”
Councillor Margaret Paterson suggested to the Committee that the pupils might consider taking their presentation to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh to ask for extra funding for the Council to meet the pupil’s aspirations.
