Inverness Prison Visiting Committee

Applications are invited from persons wishing to be considered for appointment to the Inverness Prison Visiting Committee.

The Visiting Committee acts as an independent observer on behalf of Scottish Ministers and its principal duty is to satisfy itself as to the state and administration of the prison and, in particular, the treatment of prisoners.

Members of Visiting Committees receive no payment. However, travelling expenses are paid and, in certain circumstances, members may claim for some loss of earnings.

Application forms and information packs can be obtained by writing to Julie MacLennan, Clerk to the Visiting Committee, at Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness IV3 5NX or by telephoning on 01463 702118.

The closing date for the return of completed application forms is Friday, 17 July 2009.

Interviews are likely to be held in early August and an appointment will be made by the Highland Council thereafter.
