Ward Forum On Tourism

Residents, tourism organisations and tourist related businesses in the Tain and Easter Ross Ward area are invited along to their next Ward Forum to speak to Visit Scotland and The Highland Council’s own Tourism Co-ordinator about how to enhance tourist information and services for visitors to the area.

The Ward has a number of tourist related facilities, businesses and attractions including the Pictish Trail, golf courses, a world famous distillery, potteries, dolphin watching, community woodlands, award winning beaches, harbours and the historic Royal Burgh of Tain.

Colin Simpson, the Councils Tourism Co-ordinator, explained coming to the Ward Forum gives the public the opportunity to hear what the Council and Visit Scotland are doing to promote tourism in the area and to discuss what else can be done to encourage visitors.

“We have been involved in discussions about offering an alternative tourist route north for visitors.  At the moment the tourist route north is signposted to go over the Struie road.  We want to know what people think of creating an additional tourist route north away from the A9 which takes in places in the Tain and Easter Ross Ward and which way they think it should go,” he said.

“Its useful to get together with those interested and involved in tourism so we can understand how we can work together better to improve the Easter Ross experience for visitors,” he added.

A representative from Stagecoach will also be at the meeting to discuss bus timetabling issues.

The Tain and Easter Ross Ward Forum is being held in the Seaboard Memorial Hall in Balintore on Thursday 11 June from 7.30pm to 9.30pm with a 20-minute slot allocated at the end of the meeting for questions from the public.  Teas and coffees, hosted by Balintore and Hilton Community Council, will be available from 7pm to 7.30pm.

Every Community Council in the Tain and Easter Ross Ward and other representative community organisations are members of the Ward Forum and have the opportunity to feed the views of their community into the subjects being discussed.
