Young Enterprise - Highland teams scoop top prizes at Scottish Finals
For the second year in a row, a Highland secondary school has won the Award of ‘Best Company ‘ in Scotland at the Young Enterprise Scotland Company Programme Finals in Glasgow.
Farr Woodcraft from Farr High School competed against sixteen other teams from around Scotland to take the top prize. They were also awarded first place for their Business Presentation and runners-up prize for their Business Report. The team manufacture and sell Adirondack chairs to a design created by their Company Secretary Lorna Stewart. They also ran a night class to teach local adults how to make their own chairs and footstools.
Farr will now travel to the national finals at the Park Lane Hotel, London, on Tuesday 7 July to compete against other regional winners from around the UK.
Eclipse from Nairn Academy were also award winners last night, picking up the SEPA Environmental Award trophy. This is a prestigious national award open to all teams across Scotland, and recognises a group who demonstrate an awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues.
Councillor Sandy Park, Convener of The Highland Council, said: “I would like to congratulate both teams on their wonderful achievement. They have shown again that students from our area are amongst the most entrepreneurial and innovative in Scotland. I wish Farr every success in the UK Final on 7 July."
The Convener thanked their link teachers David Charnley (Farr) and Jessica Lee (Nairn) who have supported the teams every step of the way, and to business Advisers Paul Lewis (Ben Loyal Hotel, Tongue), Farquhar Laing (Black Isle Bronze) and Alister Asher (Ashers Bakery).
