Council reduces speed at west coast school

From Saturday 27 June, 2009 a 20 mph speed limit Order will become effective at Poolewe.

A part time 20 mph limit will be introduced on the Achnasheen – Poolewe road around the junctions with Riverside Road and the B8057 Cove Road and a full time 20 limit on Riverside and Tunnel Roads.

These new speed limits are part of the Highland Council’s programme of speed reduction around Highland Schools and the latest to be introduced for children’s safety at Poolewe Primary School.

The part time limit will operate on school days at the following times: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 9am; Monday to Thursday 3:15pm to 3:30pm and Friday 2:15pm to 2:30pm.

When this Order becomes operational 81 of the 82 schools in Ross, Skye and Lochaber Area will have 20 mph speed limits at schools.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Procurator Fiscal Service.
