A Blast For Brass Musicians

85 brass playing young musicians from schools across the Highlands met up in Inverness last Wednesday for a special day of tuition and group playing.

The youngsters, all pupils of Instrumental Instructors employed by The Highland Council, ranged from relative beginners to the more skilled and experienced senior pupils. 

Brass Instructor Rob Farmer said:  “Bringing the young brass musicians together for a day like this is very important.  Many of the young people don’t get the chance to often play in group situations.  The event gives pupils from different schools the opportunity to meet up and play together and the more experienced musicians give help and encouragement to those less experienced.  There are both musical and social benefits of learning a musical instrument and all the young people who came along worked hard and seemed to really enjoy the experience.” 

The day ended with a short performance for parents of some of the materials practiced during the day.  

The Council’s Music Development Officer, Norman Bolton said: “Despite the geographical and expense issues involved in organising days such as this one, the benefit to all the pupils involved is immense.  We are already planning a number of days next session for various instrumental disciplines and very much appreciate the support that Instructors, parents and schools give these days.”
