Record Entry for Masters World Championships

The Masters World Championships for heavy athletes, which will be held at the Inverness Highland Games on Saturday July 18th and Sunday July 19th, has attracted a record entry of 82 competitors from 10 countries.

Inverness Highland Games Committee Chairman Angus Dick said "We have been advised by a delighted Bill Scruggs, Chief Executive of Scottish Masters International in Colorado, that the Masters World Championships have never before attracted competitors from so many different countries and also that we shall also be establishing a new USA national record for an Inter-State Gathering of Masters. Such is the interest in the Championships  in the USA that 49 athletes from 23 different States will be crossing the Atlantic to compete at Bught Park.

From an Inverness Highland Games perspective there can be no doubt that this is going to be a truely historic occassion and we are particularly pleased to welcome Kengo Kubota, the first Japanese Heavy, and Eric Alagille and Sylvain Iharassarry, the first French Heavies, who will become the first Heavies from their respective countries  to ever compete at our Games."

The breakdown of competitors for the 2009 Masters World Championships is:- Canada 8; England 4; France 2; Germany 3; Ireland 2; Japan 1; Norway 2; Scotland 10; Switzerland 1 and USA 49.
