Nairn Academy Closure

The 800 pupils at Nairn Academy were sent home at noon today (Monday) as a precautionary measure after dust was found in the upper floor of the school. The school will remain closed to all pupils tomorrow (Tuesday) awaiting the results of air tests and for completion of the clean up of the school.

Contractors had been employed by the Council over the weekend to prepare for the installation of 24 solar panels at the school.   When teaching staff arrived at school this morning they found that the removal of chips from the flat roof in preparation for the installation of the solar panels had caused disturbance to the ceiling and dust had settled on the floor near the maths classrooms and in the main concourse of the upper floor.

The acting head teacher, Douglas Simpson, consulted with officials from The Highland Council’s Housing and Property Service, and decided to send children home as a precautionary measure.
