Junior Golf Championship

A total of 70 golfers from 30 golf clubs and 21 secondary schools took part in the Highland Junior Golf Championships held in glorious sunshine at The Nairn Golf Club on Friday 14 October.

Fortrose Academy  retained the team event for the Bruce Robertson Trophy with Peter Cameron (77), John Fair (78) and Fraser MacKintosh (82) returning a gross team score of 237, ahead of Nairn Academy with 240 and Buckie Community High School  on 245.

Ian Allan, Lossiemouth High School, who plays at Hopeman Golf Club  won the Duncan Allan Quaich for recording the lowest boys' scratch score of 72.

Kelsey MacDonald, from Nairn Academy and Nairn Dunbar Golf Club, retained  the Grant Trophy for the best girls' scratch score. Her 77 was 12 shots ahead of the field.

The event was sponsored by Nairn Golf Club, The Highland Council and Tulloch and the prizes were handed over by Provost Sandy Park, Nairn and Ian Brodie, Captain of Nairn Golf Club.

The leading scores were: -

Girls' Scratch (The Grant Trophy):  1. Kelsey MacDonald, Nairn Academy 77;  2.  Emma Prager, Gordonstoun School, 89; Nadia Green, Nairn Academy 90.

Girls' Handicap (The Sutherland Trophy): 1. Donna MacKinnon, Kinlochbervie High School, net 71; 2. Emma Barton, Gordonstoun School, net 81; 3. Chloe MacLeod, Nairn Academy, net 82.

Boys Scratch (The Duncan Allan Quaich): 1. Ian Allan, Lossiemouth High School, 72;  2. Ross Jack, Alness, 73; Ryan Elder, Nairn Academy, 76.

Boys Handicap (Skibo Trophy): (0-9) 1. Sean Fotheringham, Kirkwall Grammar, net 70; 2. Kris MacKenzie, Dingwall Academy; net 76 (Better inward half); 3. Greg Towns, Nairn Academy, net 76.

Boys’ Handicap (Highland clubgolf Trophy) (10-18): 1. Jordan Milne, Elgin High School, net 67;  2. Jamie Nicholas, Inverness Royal Academy, net 71 (better inward half); 3. Shaun Thomson, Buckie Community High School), net 71

Team: 1. Fortrose Academy 237; Nairn Academy 240; Buckie Community High School, 245.
