Council Congratulates Knoydart
Leader of The Highland Council Michael Foxley, a founder director of the Knodyart Foundation congratulated the Knoydart community for their progress over the past 10 years and wished them well for the future.
He said: ““The purchase of Knoydart was a major landmark for land reform after Assynt and Eigg. Credit should go to the land reform movement’s leading solicitor, Simon Fraser, who spearheaded the legal negotiations to clarify the title and then the purchase.
“I would also like to pay particular tribute to the leading role of Charlie King and John Hutchinson of The Highland Council for their role in gathering the ¾ million required for purchase following complex negotiations.
“Former local councillor, Charlie King as Chair and John Hutchison as company secretary provided strong leadership in the first five years of the Knoydart Foundation. Under their guidance a lot was achieved including the refurbishment of the hydro development which has benefited almost all of the population. Continued community development has now led to one quarter of the population actively working for Knoydart.
“The Highland Council has now been robustly supporting land reform for over sixteen years because we have a key role in giving remote areas the power and opportunity to run their own affairs.”
