Asset Management

The Highland Council welcomes the report published today (Thursday) by Audit Scotland on Asset Management in local government.

The report identifies the importance of effective management and rationalisation of Council properties to achieve efficiencies and to support quality service delivery. The key messages set out in the report are aligned with The Highland Council’s Asset Management project which was initiated in 2008.

The Council has a dedicated team of property staff committed to achieving a more effective match between its service objectives and its building stock.  By focusing resources on key assets, the Council will improve their condition and suitability for the services they deliver.

Councillor Carolyn Wilson, Chairman of the Resources Committee, said: “This is a big task but good progress is being made and the Wick office project is a good example.  This project will see a redevelopment of the council offices in Market Square to provide a modern working environment..  The project will support better joint working with partners such as NHS Highland, better energy performance and will see the Council rationalise three office bases in Wick into one modern facility.”

Similar initiatives are being taken forward which ensure that the Council achieves best value from the property it owns and leases.
