Record crowd at bonfire night celebrations

The annual Inverness bonfire and fireworks display at the Bught Park, Inverness, attracted a record crowd of 20,000.  By popular demand the start of the show was moved to the later time of 7.30pm to make it easier for folk to attend and the delay paid dividends.

The action started in Bught Park Stadium grandstand at 7pm when the Falcon Drummers played their African Drums.  Also joining the Falcon Drummers was Hilton Primary School's Lewis Melville who won the competition to lead the countdown to the launch of the fireworks.

Provost Jimmy Gray, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Inverness City Committee lit the bonfire – constructed by Council staff from unwanted pallets donated by the local business community -  and the big crowd then enjoyed the fireworks display provided by the Fireworx Scotland Display team.

The bonfire and fireworks display was the second event in the Inverness Winter Festival.

The next major event is the switch on of the Christmas Lights on Sunday 22 November.
