Nairn town clock refuses to change to winter time

People in Nairn may have noticed that the town clock is still standing at British Summer Time.

The Highland Council is this week apologising to locals for this problem with the clock which refused to go back an hour when the clocks changed.

Ward Manager, Louise Clark said: “We are experiencing problems with the clock which seems to want to stay in Summer time, and there are also problems with its chimes. As this is a very delicate timepiece – it will need specialist attention from a clockmaker to try to get to the bottom of the problems. It has been reported to our Clerk of Works and we are hopeful that we can get a clockmaker to visit soon to fix it.”

The clock tower on The Highland Council buildings, on Nairn High Street was erected in 1870, replacing that of the earlier tolbooth.
