Song and yoga workshop

Highland musicians and singers are being invited to improve their breathing techniques by taking part in a song and yoga workshop.

The workshop which has been organised by The Highland Council’s Inverness Traditional Music Project coordinator, Margo MacLennan takes place on Friday 20 November from 12.30-2pm.

Musician and singer Mairi Campbell of the traditional music group “The Cast” will be leading the workshop which is being held at Merkinch Community Centre, Coronation Park, Inverness.

The Cast's version of 'Auld Lang Syne' features in the international blockbuster film ‘Sex and the City' which opened in May 2008.

Mairi is offering the opportunity for all musicians and singers to come and take part in this one-off song and yoga workshop.  She aims to encourage singers and musicians in breathing techniques and relaxation before performances.

Highland Council’s Traditional Music Coordinator Margo MacLennan said: “We are absolutely delighted that Mairi is bringing her expertise to Inverness in what we hope will prove to be a very useful exercise for people with pre-performance nerves. There are no floor exercises in this workshop in case students think they will be asked to sing in the lotus position!”

The cost of the 1.5 hour workshop is £6 / £5 concession. Anyone wishing to book a place or requiring further information can contact Margo Maclennan Traditional Music Co-ordinator on 01463 663817 or Merkinch Community Centre, on 01463 239563.
