Inverness Rangers celebrate the Year of Astronomy

Highland Council’s Inverness Rangers will be star gazing this weekend and are inviting people to join them.

On Saturday 21 November from 7:30pm - 9pm, Katy Martin, Senior Ranger for Inverness and Nairn will give star gazers an evening talk at Abriachan Forest. The event will last for one-and-a-half hours.
 
Katy said: “It's fascinating to discover the stories behind the stars - who named them and why. This talk gives people a chance to find out how the Great Bear got its name and how star signs came about. These stories are some of the oldest stories we have.

“Abriachan can be a great place to see the stars as there is very little light pollution in the area from street lighting and houses. After the talk, if the sky is clear, we will head outside to spot the star constellations. All star gazers should dress warmly; bring a torch and their imagination.”

Participation in this joint star gazing event between The Highland Council’s Rangers and Abriachan Forest Trust is free but participants do need to book a place as numbers will be limited.

This family friendly event is organised as part of The Highland Council’s Planning and Development Service countryside events programme and is part of the year of Astronomy celebrations.
