Golspie Swimming Pool closed

The Highland Council is advising members of the public that Golspie Swimming Pool was closed this morning as a safety precaution.

The Council’s Housing and Property Service has identified a problem with fixings which secure the ceiling (which is comprised of timber batons). Several have become detached form their fixing, presenting a potential hazard to pool users.

The problem was discovered this morning by the Pool Supervisor on their daily check of the building.

Contractors have been brought in this afternoon by the Council to check the roof, assess the risk, and potential remedial measures required.

Highland Council’s Area Education, Culture & Sport Manager Graham Nichols said: “While we regret the inconvenience to pool users, it is paramount that any risk to people’s health and safety is treated with the utmost seriousness.  The closure is an interim measure. We hope that a quick and simple solution can be found.”
