Laxford Bridge update

The Highland Council has appointed contractors to repair Laxford Bridge, damaged last week when an Army lorry collided with a bridge parapet before plunging into the River Laxford 30ft below. 

A and W Sinclair of John O’Groats are expected to start work on Monday once scaffolding has been erected on the bridge.  The start date is dependent on the river levels falling to allow the scaffolding to be erected. Completion of the repairs to the parapet is expected within two weeks. 

The contractors will have a traffic management measure in place that will allow vehicles under 7.5 tonnes to cross the bridge during construction work.  Barriers are already in place to protect the workforce from passing traffic. 

The current weight restriction of 7.5 tonnes will remain in place during the construction, which means the diversion via Tongue and Lairg will remain for heavy goods vehicles until the repair is completed.
