Laxford Bridge re-opens to all traffic
Motorists are being advised that Laxford Bridge on the A838 Lairg – Durness Road has this morning re-opened to all traffic following repairs to major structural damage caused by a road accident on Wednesday 30 September.
A and W Sinclair of John O’Groats were appointed to make safe the damaged parapet.
During the repairs, the contractors had a traffic management measure in place that allowed vehicles under 7.5 tonnes to cross the bridge. Heavy vehicles were diverted via Tongue and Lairg.
The damage was caused by a Ministry of Defence vehicle striking a parapet of the bridge. It toppled 30ft into the river below. The occupants escaped serious injury.
