Portable pitch will get Young Nairn people more active

An innovative partnership with Nairn Rotary Club, Highland Council’s Active Schools Initiative and Youth Development will soon provide an alternative venue for young people in Nairn to get ‘more active, more often’ while at the same time helping to blow the whistle on anti-social behavior.

A new mobile sports arena called ‘Soccerstadia’ largely funded by Nairn Rotarians, will soon be taken out and about to different locations across the town.

The Soccerstadia fits together in pieces to form an 18 metre by 12 metre sports pitch which can be used for five-a-side football, basketball, cricket, netball, tennis and badminton.

It is hoped this exciting piece of equipment will provide a venue for activities for youngsters, with the Active Schools Co-ordinator, Youth Workers and Nairn Academy Sports Leaders organising informal games and matches.

The Soccerstadia will also be used at other venues, such as fundraising activities. Its portable arena will provide a unique playing experience for young people in the Nairn area offering them positive diversionary activities right on their doorstep. It is a fantastic piece of kit that is easily transportable on the trailer and is easy to assemble in a short period of time.

Provost of Nairn, Councillor Liz MacDonald said: “This is a great facility for young people to have on their doorsteps. I would like to thank Nairn Rotary Club for their support in making this possible and I look forward to seeing our Active Schools and Youth Development staff making full use of the Soccerstadia out in the community.”
