Autumn Start For Tourism Initiative
As the summer tourist season draws to a close a public meeting is being held on the first day of autumn (Tuesday 22 September) to give those involved with tourism the opportunity to discuss working together in the Tain and Easter Ross area.
The Highland Council Ward Forum held in June discussed tourism issues in the Ward and how those interested in tourism in the Tain and Fearn Peninsula could build on the services already offered by the private sector, The Highland Council and Visit Scotland.
It was agreed at the Forum that the possibility of forming a tourism group be explored to look at enhancing the Ward as a tourist destination and tapping into funding, marketing and other opportunities available.
The idea has already been supported by a number of local tourism relate businesses but, at the request of one or two businesses, organising the meeting was left until after the main tourist season was over so they had time to take part.
Local hotelier John Shearer, owner of the Morangie House Hotel and Mansfield Castle Hotel in Tain, is one of those interested in working with fellow businesses to encourage visitors to the area to stay longer.
“Having been involved in similar alliances over the years I am more than keen to see this happen in our area,” he said.
“By working together we can make Tain and Easter Ross an attractive rounded destination and jointly promote complimentary facilities and services,” he added.
The meeting is being held on Tuesday 22 September and is open to anyone interested in tourism in the area. It is being held in the Tain Royal Academy Community Complex, Hartfield Road, Tain, IV19 1DX at 7.30pm. Refreshments will be available from 7.15pm.
Anyone interested who can’t attend the meeting should send their contact details to the Highland Council Tain and Easter Ross Ward Manager, Carol Elliot by telephoning 01349 886643 or by writing to Carol at the Tain Service Point, 24 High Street, Tain, IV19 1AE.
