Inverness cemetery to be extended
An additional 750 new burial lairs are to be provided at Kilvean Cemetery, Inverness, from 2013 on land that will be created by the demolition of the derelict Kilvean House and its walled garden.
Members of The Highland Council’s Transport, Environmental and Community (TEC) Services Committee have approved the retention and demolition of Kilvean House and its walled garden.
The estimated cost of demolition for the house and garden is £140,000 which will be met from the TEC Services Capital Programme cemetery extensions fund.
Councillor John Laing, Chairman of The Highland Council’s TEC Services Committee, said: “The time is now right to demolish this derelict property and to make way for the future expansion of Kilvean Cemetery.”
