Inverness Millburn Ward Forum
Flood prevention is the theme of the next Inverness Millburn Ward Forum being held at Inverness Town House on Tuesday 29 September. Chaired by Councillor Ian Brown, the meeting will start at 7.30 pm.
Officials of The Highland Council and Scottish Water will be in attendance to outline plans for alleviating the threat of flooding in the city and to answer questions from the forum and the public.
The meeting will be given an overview of the four major schemes that are planned to alleviate the threat of flooding in the town. They are the South West Relief Channel, the River Ness Scheme, the Dell Burn and the Mill Burn. The total estimated cost of completing the four schemes is £30 million.
The meeting will focus on flooding issues in the Mill Burn area.
Provost Jimmy Gray, chairman of the Council’s Inverness City Committee, said: “This is a big issue for the city and a significant investment is needed to remove the threat of flooding.
“At our meeting, we want to let people know the big picture in Inverness but also focus on the specific problems at the Mill Burn.
“How we as a community use and dispose of water is becoming ever more important due to the changes in our climate. This puts an onus on us all to do what we can to use this precious commodity carefully.”
Chief Inspector Andrew Maclean, Northern Constabulary, will also brief the meeting on community safety issues.
