Bridging the generation gap
For the third year in succession Highland Youth Voice members attended the Highland Senior Citizens Network conference held in Inverness last week. Following on from the success of last years technology workshop the young people returned to continue building links between the generations.
Youth Convener Magnus Monahan was joined by Gemma Mackintosh, Ardesier, Ickey Macdonald, Inverness, and Stuart Davidson and Laura Atkinson, both from Nairn.
The session begun with Magnus showing some photos of the last Youth Voice conference to explain some of the issues youth voice members have been dealing with and then the group split into discussion groups where topics included the proposed Highland Council budget cuts and the ageing population in Highland.
Magnus said: “I think the day went really well. It’s important to promote that young people aren’t all that scary after all!”
Mike Wallace from the Highland Senior Citizens Network added: “We really enjoyed ourselves and had a good laugh with the young folk. We’re already looking forward to the conference in June.”
A group from the Senior Citizens Network will be coming to the next Highland Youth Voice conference on the 17th-19th June this year in Salbh Mor Ostaig, Skye.
