Traditional music taster session

A traditional music open evening and taster session for adults and children in the Inverness area will take place on Wednesday 25 August from 7pm to 8:30pm in Crown Primary School.

Inverness Traditional Music Classes - Clasaichean Ceòl Traidiseanta Inbhir Nis have been organised by The Highland Council and are supported by the National Lottery and Creative Scotland. Anyone interested in traditional music from age 8 upwards can come along and try out fiddle, mandolin, banjo or whistle.

The open evening aims to provide locals with the opportunity of meeting traditional music tutors and to help them make their choice in taking up a class.

Twenty five classes are taking place in four different venues in Inverness. Places are available from beginners upwards in various classes on accordion, bodhran, chanter, fiddle, guitar, keyboard, mandolin and banjo, keyboard, piping, and whistle. Ceilidh dance classes and Scots song classes will also be available.

The classes run for ten weeks from Monday 30 August to Thursday 19 November with a mid-term break from 11 – 22 October.

Venues include Crown Primary School for accordion, bodhran, ceilidh dance, chanter, fiddle piping and whistle; Millburn Academy for fiddle and Scots Song; Charleston Academy for guitar; and Inverness High School for keyboard.

Tuition fees are charged for the classes with concessions available. Bookings can be made at Highland Council Service Points.
